Weekly Spotlight
Data Miners & Lego Builders
This week in math first-grade students were all about data. The students worked through stations to create different types of graphs such as a shape pictograph. The students built their names out of legos and then graphed the number of legos used in their names. They also practiced addition fluency as they sorted and graphed dominoes into sums. The students looked through non-fiction books to find charts and determine the importance of data and charts in real life. They then surveyed their classmates on their favorite holidays and sports. Finally, they converted their tally charts to a graph of their choice. In groups, they were guided through creating a graph online resource to use a digital tool to produce a graph. This was a great unit to take us right into Christmas break!!!!!
Happy holiday from the first graders in Mrs. Marks’ class.
